Clevadude Could Return at Moonee Valley

One-time Magic Millions Classic fancy Clevadude has been entered to make his return at Moonee Valley on Saturday in the Super Vobis 2YO Handicap (1000m).

The Bel Esprit gelding hasn’t been seen since his 10-length failure in the Magic Millions in January, with trainer Rick Hore-Lacy sending him straight to the paddock following his unsuccessful trip to the Gold Coast.

The Magic Millions disappointment came on the back of two dominant Moonee Valley wins to begin his career and a jump-out victory at Caulfield this morning suggests he can return to form if he lines up on Saturday.

Clevadude is one of 35 horses nominated for Saturday’s two-year-old race at Moonee Valley, which forms part of a strong “off season” program at the tight-turning track.

Expected to bounce back from a last-start seventh is Tony Vasil-trained filly Elite Elle who has been nominated for both the Super Vobis 3YO Handicap (1000m) and the Super Vobis 3YO Handicap (1200m).

The daughter of Shamardal was a Listed winner in the Quezette Stakes last August and boasts a terrific early career record of six wins from 12 starts.

Caulfield Cup-bound stayer Mr O’Ceirin will add some spring focus if trainer Ciaron Maher accepts for the 2040m handicap. The five-year-old has been allocated the topweight of 60kg after scoring by 3 1/2 lengths over the same distance two weeks ago.

Set to contest an1600m open handicap is Hawks Bay who continues his charge towards a third straight Darwin Cup. Consistently asked to carry big weights, the Neil Dyer-trained gelding is coming off a sound sixth in the David Bourke Provincial Plate at Flemington on Saturday.
