As one of the better performing jockeys back in Australia there’s no escaping the fact Tim Clark has had a pretty tough time of it in Hong Kong to date.

In fact from 127 rides he can boast only seven victories, a big change from what we expected of him back here.

That said his seventh win was one to remember at least with Destined For Glory getting up in the Group 2 Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Mile.

It’s a much needed boost in confidence and easily his biggest accomplishment since arriving there back in August.

It also gives him some vital leverage in negotiations with his contract due to expire in February.

Clark has indicated he will seek an extension and hopefully ride full time in the footsteps of Darren Beadman, Brett Prebble and other Australians.

He knows he has a long way to go to match it with those guys but this win could hopefully kick start an otherwise stalling Hong Kong stint.

“Destined For Glory was a third-stringer of John Moore’s, so being able to get the win on him shows you can handle the pressure of the big days,” Clark said.

“It can be hard to find quality rides here, so it is important you make the most of your chance.

“Obviously it is a lot different to back home. It is definitely a challenge and can be quite tough at times. But I am enjoying it and it was good to get a feature win on the board.”

It would be huge for him if he could keep Destined For Glory for his next start which will be at the International Mile next month.

To do so though he’ll probably need to fend off Beadman who is the stable rider for Moore.

“John will hopefully have multiple runners in a couple of races, so hopefully I am a chance,” Clark said.
