Caulfield Cup hopeful Chase The Rainbow appears certain to miss the entire spring carnival after pulling up lame following trackwork on Friday.

The talented four-year-old will undertake a full scan today but it is understood that he will play no further part this spring after scoring a strong first-up win at Caulfield on September 1.

It is disappointing news for connections with the son of Dash For Cash having only had one start following nearly a year without racing.

Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy was keen to target the Caulfield Cup with the lightly-raced entire and he showed his readiness for a big spring when winning first-up by 3 1/2 lengths.

Following the  win Chase The Rainbow firmed in Caulfield Cup markets from $67 into $34 and Rick Hore-Lacy said he would have had no hesitations running him in the prestigious staying race.

A winner of four of seven starts and $250,000 in prizemoney, Chase The Rainbow impressed as a three-year-old last spring when finishing runner-up in the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes and winning the Group 2 Stutt Stakes.

The Caulfield-based horse joins the large list of spring casualties that also includes Black Caviar, Atlantic Jewel, Lucas Cranach and Brambles.
