Toby Edmonds only started training Chart out of his Gold Coast base after the horse had returned some solid results down in Sydney.

He’d only returned three wins from 17 starts but in addition he’d picked up eight minors to suggest there was a bit of talent in there.

Since the trip to Queensland Edmonds has managed to add a further two victories to his resume form just three runs and he has the horse in fantastic shape leading into today’s Ballina Cup.

Two wins in a row is a good form line to carry into any race but it’s especially relevant today as he picked up one win on a good surface and the other across heavy ground.

Given the track could be rated anything by the time the race jumps this afternoon that’s a good aspect to not have to worry about.

” He’s adaptable , he’s won on a heavy track and he can handle slow…this track is perfect for him,” Edmonds said.

Chart is likely to look to push forward from barrier 11 to negate what can be a tricky draw at Ballina.

“He’s a bit of a free rolling horse and he’s probably a bit better suited that way,” Edmonds said.

“It is awkward, there’s two trains of thought on how much speed you’ll get in the race…it looks good on paper but when you get to the track that can change.”

Chart will be ridden by Patrick Keane, a level two apprentice who Edmonds has plenty of time for.

“I’ve been using him a bit here at the Gold Coast and having good luck with him…he’s quite strong and very light, pretty handy,” he said.

Edmonds is bullish about what it will take from Chart to win the 2011 Ballina Cup.

“He probably only needs to get back to his Sydney form to be very hard to beat here,” he said.
