Two-year-old Charge A Fortune will continue to stake his claim to the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic when he lines up at the Gold Coast this weekend.

Charge A Fortune was a late entry into the Magic Millions nominations after winning his debut start at Ipswich on December 23.

The Charge Forward colt won the Fitzall Events Maiden Plate by one and a half lengths ahead of fellow competitor Pure Shores.

Trainer Rex Lipp sees Charge A Fortune’s future taking him to some of the biggest races in the Brisbane Winter Carnival, such as the $500,000 The TJ Smith in June.

“I think he will be a winter carnival horse,” Lipp said.

“He’s a very relaxed colt. That’s the beauty of him.

“He might even get back a little bit in the 900m on Saturday, but he’s got gears.

“He’s done terrific since Ipswich. He worked beautifully on Tuesday morning.

“It’s all systems go.”

Despite things running smoothly at present, Lipp revealed that the team was set back by three weeks thanks to problems that arose in the naming process.

The trainer said the delay meant that Charge A Fortune was unable to make it to the racetrack as quickly as he had originally hoped.

“It seemed to take forever to get him named. That was the hold up,” he said.

“Every name we put up was rejected (by the registrar).

“In the end we just about threw our hands up.

“There’s a few doctors in him and they asked if we were having a go at them (when the name came through).

“It set us back about three weeks but it’s all behind us now.”

Charge A Fortune is one of three horses that were added as late entries into the Magic Millions 2YO Classic field on January 14.

The young colt will need to win his race on Saturday to assure him of a spot in the coveted field and a shot at the $2 million prize money on offer.
