Racing NSW release: “Trainer, Mr David Vandyke reported this morning to Stewards that Yankee Rose, a final acceptor for the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 16th April 2016 pulled its off-fore plate on Saturday, 9th April and accordingly, will race with synthetic hoof filler in the off-fore hoof. Yankee Rose experienced no lameness issue and missed no work. Synthetic hoof filler has also been added to both hind hooves. Yankee Rose will be inspected this afternoon by a RNSW Official Veterinarian.”
Yankee Rose is dominating the betting for the Champagne Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au installing her as the $1.35 favourite on the strength of her last start two and a half lengths win in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick on day one of ‘The Championships’ on April 2.
At her previous start the All American filly made up plenty of ground from midfield to run second to Capitalist in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.
Yankee Rose raced in blinkers in the Gold Slipper and in the Inglis Sires’, but Vandyke has decided to send her around in the Champagne Stakes without the head gear.
“She is undefeated with them off, she showed us last preparation what an electrifying sprint she has without blinkers and that was over 1100m,” Vandyke said.
“I felt we saw signs on Saturday that she may not settle as well as I would like, so without the blinkers I’m more confident she will settle and in turn that is going to help her finish the race off in the best possible way.
“I know she has just won a Group 1 and we are going to another Group 1 but my job is try and have her in the best shape possible, irrespective of what race it is.”
