He’s rated by many as the best young rider in the country and those accolades extend as far as leading trainer Chris Waller.

There’s no doubting Chad Schofield has a mountain of talent and the pedigree to go a long way in this game.

Things are about to get a bit tougher though and the 17 year old will need to prove his worth without a 3kg advantage.

Schofield rode out his claim yesterday with his 20th winner at metro level and he did it in style with a treble at Warwick Farm.

With acceptances having already been made for Canterbury tomorrow and Rosehill on Saturday he will be able to keep the 3kg for the time being but once that Rosehill program draws to a close it’ll be down to 2kg.

The son of top jockey Glyn Schofield is taking it all in his stride though and knows he wouldn’t be in this position unless he was doing his job well.

“I’d rather be riding winners and have my claim come down to 2kg than keep the 3kg and finding it hard to get a win,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Chris Waller has been leading the chorus of support for Schofield not just with words but with good rides as well.

He even went as far as rating him the best apprentice he’s seen since arriving in Australia a decade ago.

“He is the best apprentice both on and off the track, he has got the full package,” Waller said.

“Obviously he has a long way to go but he is heading in the right direction.”

Schofield picked up wins on Ziprossa, Flying Empress and Double Crescent at the Farm and has a good opportunity to add more to the bank with a solid book of rides over the next two days.
