Chad Schofield cleared to ride in Cox Plate

Jockey Chad Schofield has been cleared to ride in the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at after taking a harmless tumble at Moonee Valley today.

Schofield was thrown to the turf approaching the home turn in the Group 2 $250,000 Racing.com Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m) when his mount clipped heels and fell, but later was seen walking unaided to the ambulance.

Racing Victoria then reported that the young jockey escaped injury and will be fit to the ride the well supported Sweynesse in the Cox Plate.

“Jockey Chad Schofield given the all clear by medical staff after falling from Albonetti in R5,” Racing Victoria tweeted.

Schofield is in line to win back to back Cox Plates after leading all the way last year on Shamus Award and Sweynesse’s price has tumbled from $34 at acceptance time on Tuesday to be less than half those odds at $16.

The John O’Shea trained three year old has only been beaten once from five race starts, his only defeat being his last start third to Hampton Court in the Group 1 $400,000 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on October 11.

The latest Cox Plate market order with Ladbrokes.com.au has Fawkner the $4.80 favourite ahead of Criterion at $6, Sacred Falls and Adelaide at $8, Happy Trails and Royal Descent at $11 and The Cleaner at $12.
