It will be a dead track that meets the world’s best sprinter, Black Caviar, at Moonee Valley Racecourse tonight.

On the way to increasing her imposing career record to 11 wins from 11 starts, some had suggested the rain was perhaps an untested weakness in her seemingly impenetrable armour.

Track manager at Moonee Valley, Marty Synan, rated the surface a dead (4) this morning with overcast conditions and showers predicted around the area throughout the day.

Black Caviar has had six starts on Good rated surfaces and four on Dead tracks whilst she’s yet to run in any race with a Slow or Heavy grading.

Synan said he has put 20.5mm of irrigation onto the track in the past week with 11mm of rain falling in the same period.

If the rain comes harder than expected there could still be hope for her rivals who will be praying they can score a miracle on the slowest possible racing surface.

Working in their favour is the fact half a dozen other races will run before them, potentially resulting in a track downgrade.

The rail is out 2m around the circuit for the first time this year in what will be the final meet on the Monee Valley Friday night racing series.
