Caulfield Sprint Is Sepoy’s For The Taking

Sepoy is in top form for the Caulfield Sprint

Top three-year-old Sepoy is said to be better than ever going into this weekend’s Caulfield Sprint in Melbourne.

The Elusive Quality colt has been unbeatable during his three runs this campaign and assistant trainer Paul Snowden believes his winning streak will continue.

“He deserves to be the short priced favourite he is as he’s the best horse in the race,” Snowden said.

Sepoy won the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley last start despite jumping awkwardly from the barriers.

“He’s always missed it half a length, three quarters of a length,” Snowden said.

The assistant trainer admitted the team had been concerned about Sepoy’s chances going into his last race.

“He had a four week gap in between his last race the Danehill (Stakes),” he said.

“And he’s such a hard horse to keep fit this colt.”

Sepoy is expected to settle towards the front of the field in tomorrow’s Caulfield Sprint.

“He’ll be ridden pretty much the same way as the other night, he’ll go forward,” Snowden said.

“He’s an exceptional horse to have in the stable, very laid back and such a good constitution.

“Hopefully we can come away with another win.”

The Darley team are also currently preparing Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet for his run in the $3 million Cox Plate next weekend.

Snowden said the young colt had matured considerably since his turbulent two-year-old season.

“He’s got that mental toughness now,” he said.

“He relaxes a lot better with the sit so knowing (that) two front runners are going to be in it, the speed’s going to be on for the get go I’d imagine.

“I’m sure he’ll run it right out.”
