Moment Of Change, who propelled to fame after his ten length debut win in country Victoria last month, will have his second career run at Sandown today.

The Barely A Moment gelding will run in the 1,300 metre Hyland Race Colours Handicap later in the day.

The Peter Moody-trained three-year-old is already looking towards a start in the $1 million Caulfield Guineas on October 8.

Part-owner Rob Slade said that most of the owners who had shares in the syndicated gelding were unaware of how talented Moment Of Change appeared to be.

“I’m really not sure they really realise what they might have in front of them,” Slade said.

“We’d always had a wrap on the horse.

“He certainly got everyone talking after that performance that day.”

Slade believes that Moment Of Change has improved even further from his first-up run.

“His work’s been terrific,” he said.

“His work has been enhanced since his win; he certainly hasn’t gone backwards that’s for sure.

“He seems to be improving all the time.”

Moment Of Change not only won his debut race by an incredible ten lengths, but also almost broke the track record.

“He effectively won by ten lengths, he finished a tick outside the track record,” Slade said.

“For a horse to do that at his first start… I think it says it all doesn’t it?”

The horse also won his first jump-out by a convincing margin prior to his run in the country town of Murtoa.

“He absolutely blew his rivals away that day by seven lengths,” Slade said.

Slade purchased Moment Of Change himself from the 2010 Perth Magic Millions Sale before syndicating the horse and sending him to the Moody stables.

“I bought him last year over there and I bought a Bel Esprit filly (Giselle) that hasn’t races yet,” Slade said.

“I’ve already booked my ticket for next year.”

Should Moment Of Change win today as expected, he will then head to Melbourne to prepare for the Caulfield Guineas.

“We’ve got a plan in place… He’ll head to Flemington on Turnbull Stakes Day,” Slade said.

“(It’s a) 1400 metre Listed race for three-year-olds.

“And then we’d head to the Guineas 6 days later.

“He’s got plenty of space between his runs.”
