He’s only had two starts but trainer Tony Vasil has no hesitations about declaring raw colt Prince Harada a Caulfield Guineas contender.

The two-year-old made it two from two on Saturday when easily disposing of his rivals on city debut in the Alternate Railway Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

After missing the start, the son of Haradasun demonstrated his serious natural talent to come from last at the turn and comfortably overtake the field for a one-length win.

The Moonee Valley performance came on the back of a dominant 2 1/2 length debut win at Ballarat last month. So impressed with what the youngster has shown so far, Vasil told media after Saturday’s win that Prince Harada could be the best horse has ever trained.

“I know it’s winter and you see a lot of horses come good in winter,” Vasil said.

“I’m always very conservative about how I rate my horses but I’d say potentially he’s one of the best I’ve ever had.”

Vasil will resist the urge to pick up cheap winter wins and easy prizemoney with the obviously talented galloper, choosing to send him to the paddock before chasing Group 1 honours in the spring.

“I’ll  give him a little bit of a breather and set him for the Caulfield Guineas,” Vasil said.

“You can’t keep going from here right through to the Spring and see him stay up for that long.”

Also signalling their potential for a big spring campaign at Moonee Valley on Saturday was Mr O’Ceirin who produced one of the performances of the day with a 3 1/2 length win in the Printhouse Graphics Handicap (2040m).

The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding is likely to be aimed at the Caulfield Cup.
