Caulfield Cup Tips: Rising Romance The Value

Leading form analyst has Mongolian Khan on top of his 2015 Caulfield Cup tips, but he believes that talented mare Rising Romance is another horse that represents outstanding value at her current Caulfield Cup odds.

Rising Romance missed the majority of the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival due to injury, but she has found her best form again in the spring after she was transferred to the team of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

The Ekraar mare returned to the races with a credible sixth behind Boban in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 19 and she was unlucky not to beat Fawkner in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 12 before she produced a lacklustre effort in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 4.

O’Sullivan told RSN that he is willing to forgive Rising Romance for her lacklustre effort in the Turnbull Stakes and he believes that she will be tough to beat in the 2015 Caulfield Cup if she is able to replicate her performances when she finished second behind Admire Rakti in the race last year or when she took out the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).

“She was with the Donna Logan stable when she was a good second in this race last year and that performance would be hard to beat in this race,” O’Sullivan said.

“Her only other Australian 2400 metre run was when she won the Oaks in another high quality performance, so when you look through her figures the only time that she has been to 2400 metres in Australia, she has run to levels right up there with winning this race.

“This preparation she was tracking along beautifully until she got to the Turnbull Stakes, but it was a wide draw and perhaps not the greatest ride.

“I am willing to overlook that and go on previously when she was second to Fawkner and her figure there suggested she was tracking perfectly towards this race and really set to peak.

“Taking that mark there with the scope to improve with her 2400 metre form, she is one that looks hard to beat.

“Something at about that $9 price is really good odds for her.”

Rising Romance is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Cup odds of $10 with Ladbrokes and she is on the fifth line of betting behind Mongolian Khan ($4.80), Snow Sky ($8.50), Set Square ($9), Hauraki ($9.50), Rising Romance ($10) and Fame Game ($10).
