Cassidy To Make Suspension Comeback At Canterbury

Jockey Jim Cassidy will have his first ride back after a five-week suspension at Canterbury this Saturday.

Cassidy was given the hefty suspension for inappropriate use of the whip at Rosehill on November 12.

The jockey had been leading the Sydney jockey’s premiership, however, is now nine wins short of leader Hugh Bowman after serving his suspension.

“That was the frustrating part. You’re up and running and brought to an abrupt halt,” Cassidy said.

“Anyhow, I’ll fight back. Get back and hitch a ride and get going again.

“Hopefully I can put my eye in and grab one on Saturday.”

Cassidy will have his first ride back on Cindarockinrella in the Schweppes Handicap.

The three-year-old will be looking to win her first race since May.

The Fastnet Rock filly is trained by Tim Martin and has won two of her eight starts.

Cindarockinrella was purchased for $35,000 at the 2010 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and has earned close to $120,000 in prize money.

Cassidy is confident of her chances in Saturday’s race.

“I had a ride on her the other morning at the track and she’s going nice,” Cassidy said.

“She looks a genuine chance.”

The jockey will then go on to ride Icy Mist in the De Bortoli Wines Handicap later in the day.

“Her last run had merit,” Cassidy said.

“It doesn’t look over-strong on Saturday and Chris has been flying to it’s good to get on one for him.”
