Cassidy To Attempt Old School Magic With Vison & Power

An experienced jockey will jump back aboard an experienced horse in this weekend’s Doomben cup for what trainer Jo Pride hopes will be a successful reunion.

Vision And Power will contest the Group 1 event in the latest attempt by Pride to claim some more success in the twilight of his career.

It’s now being more than two years since the horse last claimed a victory but with Cassidy back aboard Pride is hoping it sparks a run of old.

“It will be good to have the horse reunited with Jimmy, they’ve had some great moments,” Pride said.

During the 2009 Autumn Carnival Cassidy enjoyed plenty of success with Vision And Power as together they won both the George Ryder Stakes and Doncaster Mile.

Now nine years old Vision And Power is used sparingly by Pride which is why he was so upset at missing a start in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

The gelding would have been an outside chance on the heavy track but was only listed as an emergency due to the entry requirements of that particular event.

Cassidy has won three Doomben cup’s with New Zealand horse Rough Habit but hasn’t steered Vision And Power since last year’s Eagle Farm Cup.

He did ride him in last year’s Doomben cup where they struggled home to finish middle of the pack.

Pride refuses to give up on the horse though and is praying for rain to try and swing the odds in his favour.

“He’ll have his last bit of serious work on Tuesday and then head to Brisbane on Thursday. I’ll leave it as late as possible before going,” Pride said.

“Hopefully by the time Saturday comes around there will be a bit of rain about.”

Owner Nick Moraitis knows what it’s like to win a Doomben Cup although it’s been a long time between drinks after claiming the 1998 event with legend Might And Power.

It’s a very different lead up to this race for him though after Might And Power jumped as a $1.18 favourite on race day.

Things will be very different for Vision And Power who will be well into double figures, probably more than $20.

Pride will be desperate for success with the gelding considering it looks like he’ll be one of just two horses representing the trainer.

His other hope is Lady’s Angel which has enjoyed some recent success winning the Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick towards the end of April.

She will run in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes and will be considered his better hope by the punters.

She will be fairly fresh going into Brisbane as well after being scratched from a planned run at Scone in the Dark Jewel Classic.

“At this stage Vision And Power and Lady’s Angel are my only definite runners in Brisbane during the carnival,” Pride said.

“There could be more but we’ll wait and see.”
