In form jockey Jim Cassidy is hoping for his Autumn luck to continue and is banking on a good track at Rosehill on Saturday for the running of the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m).

Cassidy will be aboard Sweet Idea, stablemate of the short priced favourite Overreach, and even though Sweet Idea won the Group 2 $200,000 Patinack Farm Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 2 on a heavy track, the veteran jockey believes the Snitzel filly is better on top of the ground.

“Her win on the wet track was good but after I trialled her at Randwick last week I think she is better on the dry,” Cassidy said.

“I was very impressed with the trial and think she is a genuine chance in the race.”

Gai Waterhouse elected to trial Sweet Idea to top her off for the Golden Slipper and with Cassidy on board, took out the 727m Randwick barrier trial a week and a half ago.

Cassidy is in red hot form and completed a Group 1 winning double at Rosehill on March 23 with Foreteller taking out the 1 $400,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) for trainer Chris Waller as well as winning on super colt Pierro in the $350,000 Cellarbrations Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

And Cassidy was back in the winner’s circle on Saturday at Rosehill with a win on the Waterhouse trained Julienas in the Listed $100,000 Ambassador Travel N E Manion Cup (2400m) as well as riding a winning double at Randwick yesterday.

The forecast for the rest of the week in Sydney is for a few showers everyday mainly near the coast and with a bit of luck Rosehill could be blessed with a good track on Saturday for the running of the richest two year old race in the world.

Overreach remains the $2.20 favourite after two impressive wins this Autumn while Sweet Idea is on the fifth line of betting at $13 with Waterhouse’s third Golden Slipper hope Whittington at $15 with Peter Moody’s late entry Il Cavallo.
