Carlton House opened at Ranvet Stakes odds of $14, but is now available at a quote of $11 to record his maiden race win in Australia following a brave second place finish behind Opinion in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse revealed yesterday that she is happy with the physical condition of Carlton House and told TVN that she is most interested to see how the Street Cry entire performs against stablemate Fiorente over 2000 metres this weekend.

“It is very interesting because I was talking to the Queen’s racing manager (John Warren) and Sir Michael Stoute trained both horses in the Newmarket and he always felt that Carlton House was a superior horse to Fiorente,” Waterhouse said.

“Since Fiorente has come to Australia, Fiorente has taken everything before him, so it will be interesting when these olds rivals from England hit the racetrack on the weekend.”

Carlton House has been included in the nominations for both the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick during The Championships, but Waterhouse is yet to decide which race the six-year-old will contest and will wait until after the Ranvet Stakes before she makes any further plans for the imported galloper.

“We are just trying to get him back on track on Saturday and if he can be competitive everybody will be happy; no more so than her Majesty, she will be just over the moon.

“The perfect race would be to try and win the Queen Elizabeth for the Queen.”

Carlton House will be stepping up to 2000 metres for the first time since he finished sixth behind California Memory in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin in December of 2012 and has produced his best form over the trip.

He recorded his maiden win at Group level in the Dante Stakes (2092m) at York in 2011 and took out the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (2018m) at Sandown Park before finishing second behind equine superstar So You Think in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2011m) during the 2012 Royal Ascot meeting.

Fiorente remains favourite, at Ranvet Stakes odds of $3.20, from It’s A Dundeel ($3.20), Foreteller ($9.50), Carlton House ($11) and Hawkspur ($11).
