Carlton House made his racing debut under the care of Sir Michael Stoute in the United Kingdom in 2010 and stamped himself as a contender for the classics with a dominant win in a maiden at Newbury.

The Street Cry entire scored his maiden win at Group level in the Group 2 Dante Stakes (2092m) at York and finished a close third in the Group 1 Epsom Derby (2423m) before finishing his three-year-old campaign with a fourth place finish in the Group 1 Irish Derby (2414m).

Carlton House started the 2012 racing season with a win in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (2018m) at Sandown and finished a brave second behind equine superstar So You Think in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2011m) at Ascot on June 20.

The Her Majesty The Queen Of England-owned galloper hade three more race starts for Stoute before he joined the stable of Gai Waterhouse after she finished sixth behind California Memory in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) at Sha Tina at the end of 2012.

Carlton House made his Australian racing debut with a 13th place finish in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m), but he missed the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival with a number of nagging issues, despite beating Fiorente in a barrier trial early in his campaign.

The six-year-old returned to racing with a ninth place finish in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on February 8 and finished a tough second in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1 before he narrowly missed out on a maiden win at Group  1 level in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Carlton House finished his autumn campaign with a third place finish in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 and was rated one of the leading contenders for the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), but does not appear to have come up for his spring campaign and will instead stand at Darley’s Kelvinside stud for a fee of $16,500.

Darley Australia Head Of Sales Alastair Pulford said that the operation was delighted to acquire a stallion with the pedigree of Carlton House and he is confident that the entire can have even more success at stud than he had during his racing career.

“We are delighted to stand a son of our world-renowned stallion Street Cry on our Kelvinside roster,” Pulford said.

“Carlton House possessed the precocity to be a tear away winner at two, but had that famous Street Cry durability which saw him mixing it with the best at six.

“His pedigree is top class and he is a complete outcross for Danehill, Danzig and other Northern Dancer line stallions.

“We look forward to showing him to breeders in the coming months.”

Carlton House finished his racing career with just three wins from 15 race starts, but accumulated over $1,000,000 in prizemoney.
