The 2016 Magic Millions Classic could be on the agenda for Capitalist after he recorded a very comfortable victory in the 2015 Breeders Plate at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Capitalist was settled towards the tail of the field when he made his first public appearance with a barrier trial victory, but he showed more early speed in the Breeders Plate and he was settled just behind the leading group in the early stages of the race.
Jockey Blake Shinn took Capitalist into the clear at the 400 metre mark and he went to the lead without being asked for an extra effort before he ran away from his rivals despite never really being tested by Shinn.
“What an outstanding performance,” Shinn said.
“He won with authority and he is an outstanding two-year-old.
“Full credit to Peter Snowden and Paul, they have trained him beautifully for today and well done to James Harron and Newgate Farm.
“They have found a really smart horse here.
“He is just so relaxed and I think that is just his greatest attribute, his demeanour.
“He is a real through professional and that is going to take him a long way.”
Co-trainer Peter Snowden always thought that Capitalist had plenty of talent, but he admitted after the race that even he was surprised with how easily the juvenile was able to get the job done in the Breeders Plate.
Snowden and managing co-owner James Harron said that 2016 Magic Millions Classic would be an obvious goal for Capitalist, but he said that they would put plenty of thought into exactly where they should head with the talented colt.
“He really surprised me,” Snowden said.
“He has done everything right at home, but the ease that he has won and the time that he has run is super impressive.
“When we bought him we said that he looks an up and running type and we would get in and get at him and if he had ability we would go for broke early, but we might rethink after today and assess some realistic goals.
“The Magic Millions is worth $2 million this year, so that is definitely going to be on the radar, but we have to enjoy today first and have a think about things tomorrow.
“He is a very impressive horse.”
Detective gave Team Snowden the Quinella in the Breeders Plate with a strong effort, while Prize Icon added some value to the trifecta to finish third.
The Breeders Plate has been one by some of the best two-year-olds in the history of Australian racing and recent winners include Choisir (2001), Snitzel (2004), Sebring (2008), Pierro (2011) and Vancouver (2014).
