Capacity field for 2017 Tattersall’s Tiara

A capacity field of sixteen fillies and mares will line up in the 2017 Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

As well as the top sixteen, there are also five emergencies with last Saturday’s Gai Waterhouse Classic winner Maternal being named first reserve and will need a scratching to make the final race day field.

Trainer Darren Beadman will definitely have a runner in the last Group 1 of the 2016 – 2017 racing season even if Maternal fails to get a late call up with Kinshachi making the top sixteen with Michael Cahill booked to ride.

Cahill takes over from Damian Browne who rode Kinshachi last Saturday when second to Maternal in the Listed $100,000 Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.

Browne will stick with the Kelly Schweida trained Miss Cover Girl after the pair combined to win the Tattersall’s Tiara twelve months at Eagle Farm.

Josh Parr finds himself back aboard the Ben Smith trained In Her Time with the mare to carry 57kg under the weight for age scale after he had to forego the ride in the Stradbroke Handicap when he couldn’t get down to the her allocated weight of 53.5kg.

In Her Time ran a mighty race with Dean Yendall in saddle to go down narrowly to the Beadman trained Impending in the Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 10.

The Doomben track was rated a soft 6 on Wednesday and looks likely to improve with clear skies for the rest of the week which will please Smith who would prefer a good surface for In Her Time.

“Sunshine is predicted so hopefully it will dry out a bit more. Dead to early soft range, she doesn’t mind it. As long as she’s got a bit of foot in there, she’s fine,” Smith told the Newcastle Herald.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable will only have one runner in the Tattersall’s Tiara, three year old filly Prompt Response, after her stablemate My True Love was relegated to be the fifth emergency.

Tommy Berry has been granted a stay of proceedings pending an appeal for a careless riding suspension he received on Stradbroke Handicap Day and is free to keep the ride on Prompt Response after the pair combined to win the Group 2 $200,000 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 10.

In-form trainer Bjorn Baker will saddle up two runners in the Tattersall’s Tiara, Egyptian Symbol with Tim Clark booked to ride and Bonny O’Reilly with Jason Collett back in the saddle.

Hugh Bowman will ride Chris Waller’s only runner French Emotion while Luke Nolen will be aboard the Lindsey Park trained last start winner Miss Gunpowder.
