Cahill to reunite with Peron in Tattersall’s Tiara

Top Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill will reunite with Peron after twelve months when she lines up in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Peron has been out of luck at her last couple of Winter Carnival starts and trainer John Thompson is hoping the booking of Cahill can help her get back into the winner’s stall.

Cahill was Peron’s regular rider all the way through last year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival and the pair collected three wins together before finishing tenth to Red Tracer in the Tattersall’s Tiara.

But Peron hasn’t won a race since winning the Listed $100,000 Sky Racing World Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich the week before last year’s Tattersall’s Tiara.

Thompson has been pleased with Peron’s form this Winter even though she hasn’t figured among the placings and was glad to get a good report from Cahill who rode the Husson mare in trackwork during the week.

“Michael galloped her on Tuesday and said she’s working like a winner, she’s just got to have a bit of luck,” Thompson told AAP.

Thompson has targeted the fillies and mares races this Carnival and expects Peron to be peaking when she takes her place in the field on Saturday.

“Her last run and this one were her main goals so she’s at her peak, that’s for sure,” Thompson said.

“You’d like to be tipping a horse that has been winning but she’s been running well without luck.”

Peron will be lining up against Cosmic Endeavour and Driefontein again after the Gai Waterhouse trained pair ran the quinella when she finished fourth as favourite in the Group 2 $200,000 VIRBAC Animal Health Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

Cosmic Endeavour and the Chris Waller trained Red Tracer share favouritism at $5 for the Tattersall’s Tiara with Ladbrokes.com.au just ahead of Catkins and Steps In Time who are both marked at $6.

Driefontein is the next in the betting at $11, Avoid Lightning at $15 while Peron is marked at the good odds of $21.
