Jockey Michael Cahill agrees with the punters that have supported his mount Yesterday’s Songs in the Listed $175,000 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday.

Yesterday’s Song has firmed slightly in from $10 to $9.50 and Cahill thinks that the six year old has a very strong chance of collecting the major prize.

“We really chased the ride because this gelding has come from some really good form races and I am sure he can win the Eye Liner,” Cahill told Racenet.

“I think he is a better chance than what they have him in the market.

“He is also good enough on soft ground and I’m sure he will be very tough to beat at Ipswich.”

Cahill was keen to secure the ride on the Mike Moroney trained Yesterday’s Songs after watching him run fifth to Deploy with Partick Moloney in the saddle in Group 2 $175,000 Ascot Green Moreton Cup (1200m) at Doomben on June 3.

Cahill considered that to be a strong form race for the Eye Liner Stakes and also said that Yesterday’s Songs had some solid Melbourne form behind him before coming to  Queensland.

Prior to his Moreton Cup effort, Yesterday’s Songs was beaten three quarters of a length when second to Tashbeeh in the Listed $120,000 Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington on May 20.

Yesterday’s Songs has drawn barrier nine in the capacity sixteen horse field and the prospect of a rain affected track won’t provide any problems with his record on wet tracks showing one win on the heavy and two on the soft.

The Ipswich track was rated a heavy 8 on Thursday and the prospect of it improving to be better than the soft range are looking dim at this time of the year.

In an open betting race, the Team Snowden trained Acatour heads the Eye Liner Stakes market order at Ladbrokes.com.au at $5 just ahead of The Virginian at $6 and Perfect Dare at $7.50.

Acatour is the only three year old in the Eye Liner Stakes and is coming off a short freshen up after finishing eighth to Mongolian Wolf in the Group 3 $150,000 Mostyn Copper Group Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick on April 15.

At his previous start Acatour scored a comfortable win on a heavy track in the Group 3 $200,000 Chine Horse Club Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 1.

Premiership winning jockey Jeff Lloyd has been booked to ride Acatour who drew barrier eleven in the original draw but will move in two spots if all the emergencies fail to gain a start.
