Burning Front was able at Stradbroke Handicap odds of $21 when the final field was released on Wednesday, but there has been consistent support for the Darren Weir-trained galloper over the past 24 hours.

The Primus gelding has been in outstanding form in 2017 and he has recorded seven wins from his past eight races.

He started the year with a win in the Swettenham Stud Championship Series (1600m) at Caulfield on January 7 and he won the VOBIS Gold Star (1500m) at Moonee Valley on January 21 before he recorded the biggest win of his racing career to date in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield on February 11.

Burning Front romped home in the Gold Eldorado (1300m) at Wangaratta on March 5 and he won the Listed CS Hayes Memorial Cup (1600m) at Morphettville on March 13, but he suffered a rare defeat in the Listed Golden Mile (1600m) at Bendigo on April 1.

The six-year-old returned to winning form in the VOBIS Gold Mile (1600m) at Caulfield on April 22 and he fought off Hooked to win the Group 3 R A Lee Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on May 20.

While Burning Front has been the best-backed runner in the 2017 Stradbroke Handicap, the favourite in the betting market with Ladbrokes continues to be Kris Lees-trained Clearly Innocent.

Clearly Innocent drifted from $4.60 out to $6 at the conclusion of the Stradbroke Handicap barrier draw, but he has been backed into $5.50 following his impressive victory in the Group 1 Darley Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on May 27.

The other horse that has been very well-backed in the Stradbroke Handicap betting market with Ladbrokes is Mackintosh, who has been backed from $8 into $6 to record a maiden Group 1 victory.

Mackintosh has not been seen at the races since he failed to fire in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot in December last year, but he does have an excellent first-up record.

There has been a sprinkling of support in betting for Hooked ($26 into $18) and In Her Time ($21 into $17), while Jungle Edge ($8 out to $13), Rageese ($26 out to $41) and Kaepernick ($31 out to $41) have all been on the drift.
