Newcastle maiden winner Bukzel wrote her name into the history books when she became boom sire Snitzel’s thirtieth individual two year old winner for the season, equalling the mark set by Without Fear forty years ago.

Lindsay Park’s famous sire Without Fear set the record in 1976 with thirty individual juvenile winners and Arrowfield’s leading sire Snitzel was able to equal that mark when the Peter and Paul Snowden trained two year old filly Bukzel won an 1150m Open Maiden on the Beaumont track at Newcastle on a heavy 9 last Saturday.
Bukzel was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $135,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales and syndicate manager Chris Ward said he was thrilled that their filly was able to provide Snitzel with equalling the longstanding record.
“We’re thrilled to provide Snitzel’s milestone two-year-old winner today with Bukzel. She’s a promising filly we have plenty of time for,” Ward said.
“She was sent to the races today to get race experience before going to the paddock and we thought she would be tough to beat.”
“This will stand her in good stead for next prep when she returns late in the Spring. There is plenty of upside with her.”
Ward said the Triple Crown had been an admirer of Snitzel for several years and has had great success with his progeny including 2015 Group 1 $500,000 BTC Cup (1200m) winner Hot Snitzel and last Saturday’s Canterbury winner, three year old Redzel, who led all of the way to win the 1100m July Sprint.
“Snitzel has been so good to us. He’s a stallion we identified early and he’s repaid us many times over. Not only does he produce fast and precocious horses, but tough horses too,” Ward said.
“Hot Snitzel typified everything that he’s about: winning as a pre-Christmas two-year-old before winning stakes races every season right through to his Group 1 win as a six-year-old. They don’t come much better.”
Redzel’s first up win at Canterbury was very impressive and Peter Snowden expects the three three year old to win many more races over the sprint distances in the future.
“Redzel is a free-running sprinting type and his greatest asset is his speed so we may as well use that to his advantage,’’ Snowden said.
“It was a good result to see him win like that. There might be a nice race for him somewhere.’’
Gai Waterhouse looks to have one of the season’s best Snitzel two year olds with the unbeaten El Divino who will be set for the major three year old races in the Spring, including the Group 1 $1m Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 8.
El Divino is a half brother to champion mare Winx and scored first up in a 1000m Gosford maiden before dead heating with Astern in the Group 3 $200,000 Widden Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on April 2.
Snitzel currently stands at Arrowfield Stud for a service fee of $110,000.
