Bugatty could be surprise Black Caviar Lightning runner

Two year old winner Bugatty could join fellow juvenile Boomwaa and run in the Group 1 $500,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The famous sprint down the Flemington straight rarely sees a two year old take part with the last one to run being Clever Zoe in 1993 who finished second to the great Schillaci and the last two year old to win the Lightning was Desirable in 1976.

Co-trainer John Hawkes said that he would enter Bugatty in the Group 1 weight for age race and decide later in the week if the Dreamscape colt will take on the older horses.

“He will be entered and we’ll have a look at it later in the week, see what the weather is like,” Hawkes told TVN.

Bugatty has already won over the 1000m down the Flemington straight in January and along with Boomwaa will only have to carry 46kg under the weight for age scale.

Lightweight jockey Dean Holland has been put on standby to ride Bugatty while trainer Robbie Laing has booked Dean Yendall to ride Boomwaa.

Bugatty has been in the prizemoney at all his three starts and apart from winning at Flemington two starts back, was second on debut over 1000m at Moonee Valley on December 28 and was second last week in the Group 3 $135,000 Mal Seccull Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield behind Gai Waterhouse’s Blue Diamond Stakes fancy Nayeli.

Boomwaa also has a win over the Black Caviar Lightning course back in November in the Group 3 $150,000 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) before he went out for short break.

The Mutawaajid gelding has finished second at his too subsequent starts in a 1100m Rosehill two year old on January 4 and then runner up to Peggy Jean in the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) at Randwick on January 18.

Laing hasn’t ruled out a start for Boomwaa in the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield the week after the Black Caviar Lightning.
