Buffering has wowed onlookers by producing a thrilling run to win the Group 2 The Victory at Eagle Farm today.

The three-year-old gelding demonstrated yhow much talent he possesses by blitzing the quality field, including last start Group 1 The Galaxy winner Atomic Force, who finished in second.

Handling the Slow 7 rated track with ease, Buffering led the whole way to win the $175,000 race by nearly one and a half lengths.

Trainer Robert Heathcote was always confident of Buffering’s chances going into his first Group race of the winter season.

“His work on Saturday morning was first class and I was delighted with his work this morning,” Heathcote said earlier in the week.

“I expect him to be competitive but he’ll improve a lot after this run.”

Now that Buffering has blitzed such a quality opposition, Heathcote may decide to run him in the $400,000 BTC Cup against the great Black Caviar.

“If he runs a blinder I’ll consider lining up against Black Caviar next time,” he said.

“But I do mean just lining up against her. I don’t expect him to beat her.

“I’m quite happy to have a run for second money ($80,000).”

No matter whether Buffering decides to take on Black Caviar or not, his major aim will now be the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap.

Buffering will now beat the ballot and gain automatic entry into the Stradbroke Handicap after winning today’s race.

“Saturday’s race is a ballot-free race into the Stradbroke Handicap so if he happened to win then the Stradbroke would be his primary goal.”

Buffering won the Victory Stakes in a time of 1 minute and 13.05 seconds ahead of Atomic Force and Azzaland.
