Budriguez resuming in Spring stakes

South Australian trained Budriguez will make a low key Spring Carnival entry when he lines up in the Group 3 $115,000 Adelaide Galvanising Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Budriguez is among the nominations for the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 26 and if trainer David Jolly is pleased with the seven year old’s early Spring form, will head to Melbourne.

“He’ll run here, the Penny Edition and then maybe head to Melbourne,” Jolly told The Advertiser.

Jolly will send Budriguez out on Saturday fairly advanced and expects him to make his presence felt before heading to the Listed $80,000 Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on August 24.

“He had a good break from a reasonably long campaign but he’s come back well,” Jolly said.

Jolly took Budriguez to Melbourne in the Autumn after winning over 1550m at Morphettville in January and returned home with two Group 3 trophies plus having to share a Group 2 win with Melbourne Cup hopeful Puissance De Lune when the pair dead heated in the Group 2 $220,000 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 9.

Budriguez always brings the crowd alive with his daring front running displays as was the case in the Blamey Stakes and then he repeated that effort with an all the way win in the Group 3 $150,000 Zaidee’s Rainbow Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on March 30.

Budriguez’s other Group 3 win was in the $125,000 Herald Sun Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield on February 9.

Jolly is also hoping for a bright Spring for his smart mare Danish Spy who will be pitted up against stablemate Budriguez in the Spring Stakes.

Dansih Spy found some top form at the end of her Autumn campaign with a second to Star Of Giselle in the Group 2 $175,000 Tattsbet Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on April 27.

The Dane Shadow mare followed that up with a fourth to subsequent Stradbroke Handicap winner Linton in the Group 3 $150,000 R A Lee Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on May 11.
