Brown to miss Doncaster Mile race day

Top Sydney jockey Corey Brown will be on the sidelines on Doncaster Mile day at Randwick next week after being suspended at Canterbury yesterday.

Racing New South Wales Stewards found Brown guilty of careless riding when he permitted his mount , Coventry, to shift out on the home in the Canterbury Park Handicap (1100m) causing Jim Cassidy on Lord Of The Spur to be checked.

Brown will be out of the saddle from Sunday, April 15 until Friday, April 27, missing Doncaster Mile day, but will be free to ride on Sydney Cup Day.

Brown was disappointed to be missing such an important day right in the middle of the Carnival, but is looking forward to be back for the Sydney Cup.

“It’s a pain in the backside,” Brown said.

“You’re just getting wound up for the carnival and in the middle of it all this happens. It’s a downer but at least I’m back for the Sydney Cup day.”

Brown has a busy day at Randwick today and is on first race favourite Ichihara in the Group 3 $125,000 Matrium Financial Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on April 14 as well as top fancy Rain Affair in the Group 1 $1m Darley T J Smith (1200m).

He also has the mount on Chris Waller’s Sydney Cup hopeful Permit in the Group 2 $175,000 Schweppes Chairman’s Quality (2600m).
