Bring Me The Maid the big firmer for the Golden Slipper

Last Saturday’s Rosehill winner Bring Me The Maid is the big firmer for the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill after the weekend’s racing.

Caulfield trainer Peter Moody has no worries about backing up Bring Me The Maid in a week after the Sebring filly produce a last to first win in the Group 2 $175,000 IRT Magic Night Stakes (1200m).

Bring Me The Maid’s Golden Slipper odds with Ladbrokes.com.au have firmed dramatically from $51 before the weekend to be one of the top six fancies at $17.

The Peter Snowden trained Earthquake still has a stranglehold on the market order and has also firmed to be the clear cut favourite at $1.95.

Moody was quick to give Bring Me The Maid the tick of approval to go around next week in the world’s richest two year old race and said that it was a bonus that he now knows she can handle a rain affected track after handing the heavy conditions on Saturday.

“She handles all going and now I don’t have to train the filly. She has just trained herself,” Moody said after the win.

“She is a very nice, progressive filly.”

Bring Me The Maid was selected at the Magic Millions sales by the late Roy Higgins, who passed away just over a couple of weeks ago, and the champion jockey will no doubt be riding her along in the Golden Slipper.

Higgins was able see Bring Me The Maid win on debut at Flemington on March 1 in the Listed $120,000 Sports 1000 (1000m) before his passing and his Syndicating partner Wylie Dalziel says the filly will be running for him.

“Physically, he’s not with us but I know he’s there and he’ll be watching and she’ll do him proud,” Dalziel told the Herald Sun.

“It’s been a whirlwind. I’m glad he was alive when she won her first race.”

“It’s our first Golden Slipper runner and it’s also my first Group 1 runner since we restructured the business under Dalziel-Higgins racing.”

Moody believes Bring Me The Maid should be going into Saturday’s Golden Slipper undefeated from three race starts.

At her second race start at Moonee Valley, Bring Me The Maid was held up for a run on the home turn before running home to finish third to London Lolly in the Listed $120,000 Chandler Macleod St Albans Stakes (1200m) on March 14.

“She should have won at the Valley, she should be lining up here undefeated. It was no-one’s fault, it was just the Valley being the Valley,” Moody said.

Chad Schofield has been aboard Bring Me The Maid at all her three starts and will be partnering her again on  Golden Slipper Day.

The Team Hawkes trained Mossfun is marked as the second favourite at $7 behind Earthquake with the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Unencumbered  at $12, Earthquake’s stablemate Ghibellines at $13 and Queensland filly Oakleigh Girl at $16 while the Mick Price trainer Cornrow shares the $17 mark with Bring Me The Maid.
