Brewery Worthy Of Place In Gunsynd Classic Field

Brewery will face the toughest test of his racing career to date in the 2015 Gunsynd Classic, but trainer Gerald Ryan believes that the three-year-old is worthy of his chance in the Group 3 event at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Brewery was gelding after he failed to fire in his first two race starts as a two-year-old last year and he has produced a string of impressive performances since he returned to racing with an impressive win at Hawkesbury on February 12.

The Fastnet Rock gelding was sent to Queensland after he took out the Lakeside School Handicap (1500m) at Newcastle on March 14 and he finished a very close second behind Gid Up Strop in the Best Security Plate at Doomben on April 11.

Ryan told Sky Racing HQ that Brewery has trained on since he returned to racing in the Best Security Plate and he is confident that the progressive galloper can produce a competitive effort in the Gunsynd Classic.

“He has improved since we gelded him,” Ryan said.

“He went up there dodging wet tracks and that is why he went a month between runs before we found that race there.

“He ran well and he was pipped right on the line.

“I went up on Monday night and watched them work yesterday morning and to my eye he has improved and is going well.

“This is probably a bit harder on Saturday, but the way that the horse is going I think he earnt a crack of it.”

The Gunsynd Classic field was released earlier this morning and six of the ten horses in the $125,000 race will be taking winning form into the Group 3 event.

Worthy Cause has by far the highest handicap rating in the Gunsynd Classic field and he gets in extremely well at the weights under the set weights conditions of the race.

The Choisir colt finished a gallant third behind Mywayorthehigway and Hijack Hussy in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast on December 27 and he returned to winning form with a professional effort in the Sprite Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on April 18.

The talented Fusina, Think Big Stud-owned Gid Up Strop, Sam Kavanagh-trained Invinzabeel and the Peter Moody-trained duo of Ulmann and Upham are also taking winning form into the Gunsynd Classic, while Inauguration and Chillin With Dylan were also placed in their last starts.
