Breeding Barn On Hold For Beaded

Beaded

Beaded will run in the Group 1 Tattersall's Tiara before a decision on her future is made

It’s already been a long and successful campaign for Peter Snowden’s Beaded but there is at least one more run on the cards before any future decisions are made.

She’ll will contest the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara this Saturday at Eagle Farm, a race in which she’ll undoubtedly be the favourite on the back of her previous runs throughout this year.

Her highlight was claiming a maiden Group 1 in the Doomben 10,000.

It was a race devoid of both Black Caviar and Hay List however she showed tremendous courage to hold off Love Conquers All on the line.

Her last start was in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, many expected her to go two in a row and it appeared to be the case before a fast finishing Sincero loomed up in the closing stages.

It’s added strength to what was already a tremendous career record, 21 starts for 10 victories and ten placings.

The only time she failed to finish in the money she came home fourth.

If she can win the Tiara this weekend (formerly known as the Winter Stakes) she’ll boost her prize money over the $1.5 Million mark.

While she’s already worth plenty as a broodmare, Snowden is probably leaning towards giving her one more campaign as a racer.

She’s a horse that holds special significance for the trainer and you sense that he enjoys her wins just that little bit more.

The only problem is that her success as weighted her out of most handicaps leaving only weight for age races as an option.

Connections are enjoying the ride though and Snowden says the journey will probably continue a little longer.

“Once a mare has won a Group 1 it doesn’t really matter if she wins another couple. She’s done her job as far as her worth at stud is concerned,” Snowden said.

“We’ll have another look at her after the Winter Stakes (Tatt’s Tiara) performance.

“She has come through the Stradbroke run really well. She’s in good shape for the race next week.”

Beaded ran in the corresponding race last year and it was an expectedly tough performance to come home third behind Melito.

The field will not be as strong as those she has beaten previously so there’s plenty of confidence about her chances.

There are a couple of challenges though, potentially headed by the Mathew Smith trained Hurtle Myrtle.

She’s currently being prepared up at the Sunshine Coast and Smith is happy about the timing of the race.

“Even though she won’t have raced for three weeks going into the Tiara she doesn’t need a lot of hard yakka on the track to be right to go,” Smith said.

“She’s a mare who takes a week to get over a run and she produces her best with her starts spaced.”

Hurtle Myrtle won her last start in the Dane Ripper Stakes and has been improving all campaign.

The third placed finisher in that race was Pontiana which will also be backed up for the Hawkes stable.

She’ll be one of two with Group 1 winner Yosei also taking to the track.

Yosei won the AJC Sire’s Produce Stakes last year as well as the Thousand Guineas, both times under the control of Michelle Payne.

Payne is back aboard for the first time this preparation and it’s hoped the combination will reignite what has been an average first two runs.

The other player has to be Zero Rock which has threatened so much during the carnival but is yet to break through.

The horses last three runs have returned placing in the Glenlogan Stakes, Dane Ripper and the Stradbroke Handicap.

Also returning to Eagle Farm could be Born To Rock after a successful trip to Ipswich on Saturday.

She won the Gai Waterhouse Classic and with a 1.5kg weight advantage coming into the Tiara the three-year-old could spring an upset Group 1 win.
