Brazen Beau is set to contest the 2015 July Cup at Newmarket next month after he finished a narrow second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday morning.

Jockey Craig Williams elected to ride Brazen Beau away from the rest of the field on the outside rail throughout the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the decision looked like it had paid off, but American sprinter Undrafted came from the tail of the main group to record a narrow victory.

Williams said that the plan heading into the race was always to keep Brazen Beau away from the rest of the field, but he admitted after the race that Brazen Beau may have been better served racing in the main group.

“Unfortunately, in a couple of occasions in the race he lost concentration from being on his own, so it would have been an advantage if he was with another horse,” Williams said.

“It’s just the way that it was.

“He was so gallant and tough and unfortunately couldn’t get there in the end.

“Under no circumstances did he lay down.

“It was truly an Aussie spirit and he fought hard.”

Godolpin have now officially taken over the ownership of Brazen Beau and they are keen to give the son of I Am Invincible another opportunity to record a Group 1 victory in the United Kingdom.

Godolphin Australia Managing Director Henry Plumptre said that the organisation were thrilled with the brave effort of Brazen Beau in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and he confirmed that the July Cup was likely for the three-year-old.

“We have spoken with Chris and John Ferguson in England and it is felt that the July Cup is a good option for him after a courageous effort,” Plumptre said.

“He is over there and provided his post-race recovery goes to plan and it is not a rain-affected track at Newmarket he will race in the July Cup.

“Chris feels he will get better with another couple of weeks on the training track over there.

“There is a theory that you might only get one run out of them when you go to England so close to the race, but Choisir won both the King’s Stand and Golden Jubilee and then was second in the July Cup.

“Starspangledbanner won the Golden Jubilee and the July Cup and this horse was absolutely magnificent at Royal Ascot and deserves his chance to go out a winner.”

Wandjina was far from disgraced in sixth position in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and he is also a chance of contesting the July Cup next month.
