Trainer Chris Waller may be forced to rethink his decision not to run Brazen Beau  in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) after the talented three-year-old recorded an impressive victory in a barrier trial over 900 metres at Rosehill Gardens this morning.

Brazen Beau contested the sixth barrier trial of the day over 900 metres and he was settled off the pace by jockey Hugh Bowman in the early stages of the trial before working home strongly to record a strong win over Bugatty and Press Report.

The I Am Invincible colt was set to return to the races in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, but he was scratched from the event because of the heavy Rosehill Gardens track, which has thrown his spring campaign into disarray.

Brazen Beau was originally expected to contest the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on September 13, but Waller revealed yesterday that the three-year-old would likely miss the Group 1 event and be saved for a first-up tilt at the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 20; with the talented colt also included in the nominations for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11 and the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 25.

The talented colt made his racing debut with a dominant four and a half lengths victory in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury on February 5, but failed to fire in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 8.

Brazen Beau was sent to Queensland for the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and scored his maiden win at Group level in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 10 and he finished second in both the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 24 before making his Group 1 debut with a close second behind Almalad in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

Brazen Beau’s performances during his juvenile campaign have him sitting eighth in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes order of entry and he is guaranteed a run if Waller elects to enter him for the Group 1 event.

Waller is chasing his second straight win in the Golden Rose Stakes after taking out the 2013 edition of the race with Zoustar.
