Trainer Chris Waller has revealed that Brazen Beau is likely to be scratched from the 2014 Run To The Rose field because of the expected heavy track at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow.

Brazen Beau was set to start his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) before stepping-up to the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 13, but Waller told Racing Ahead this morning that he does not believe that the son of I Am Invincible will be able to perform at his best on a wet track.
“Brazen Beau is a doubtful runner due to the wet track,” Waller said.
“I don’t think that he can quicken in it, so we will have to try a find another suitable race for him, which is disappointing because it could mean he will struggle to be fit enough in time for the Golden Rose in two weeks.
“We will make that final decision in the morning.”
While Brazen Beau is unlikely to take his place in the Run To The Rose field, Waller confirmed that Law and Sniper Fire would still contest the Group 3 event.
Law failed to fire on wet tracks in both the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), but Waller said that the Denman colt needs to run in the The Run To The Rose to have any chance of running out a strong 1400 metres in the Golden Rose Stakes in a fortnight.
“Law has no form on wet tracks, but he is in the same boat and he pretty much has to run to run in the Golden Rose in two weeks’ time,” Waller said.
“I was very happy with his first-up run, he settled beautifully and the 1200 metres is just a good stepping stone to hopefully get him to settle again.
“If he gets through the conditions he will be very competitive, but it is obviously going to be a big test for all runners.”
Waller revealed earlier this weekend that he is unsure what path that Sniper Fire will take during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and he will decide on which races to target with the High Chaparral gelding after he runs in The Run To The Rose tomorrow.
Unlike his stablemates, Sniper Fire has previously won on a rain affected surface, when he took out the Freshworld Plate (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on June 14, but Waller admits that the three-year-old faces a stiff rise in class in the Group 3 event.
“Sniper Fire is trying to earn his stripes at this level and earn a start in the Golden Rose,” Waller said.
“It is a bit step-up and we will see where he fits into the Golden Rose equation after tomorrow’s race.”
Brazen Beau is currently available at 2014 Run To The Rose odds of $6, while both Law ($16) and Sniper Fire ($16) are both priced at double figure odds.
