Bowman took full advantage of the absence of his main rival Brenton Avdulla at Canterbury on Wednesday with a winning double and leapfrogged him to gain a half win lead with seventy-seven metropolitan wins for the 2016 – 2017 racing season.

Avdulla was sent out for careless riding at the Canterbury meeting on July 5 and commenced the suspension on July 9 and can hop back in the saddle on Monday July 17.

There are five more Sydney Metropolitan meetings before the end of the current season on July 31 and Bowman will get another chance to extend his premiership lead this Saturday at Rosehill with Avdulla still on the sidelines.

Bowman edged to the front in the jockey’s premiership with his win on the Luke Pepper trained Viceroy in the last race of the day at Canterbury which added to his win for Chris Waller on the promising filly Awoke earlier in the day.

Bowman will team up again with Waller for six of his nine rides at Rosehill on Saturday but has elected to stick with the Team Snowden trained Gold Symphony in the Listed $150,000 ATC Winter Stakes (1400m) .

Bowman can notch up an early winner when he rides the Waller trained Calculated in the first race of the day, the #theraces Handicap (1400m) for the two year olds.

Calculated impressed Bowman when the pair combined for a win in a 1200m 2yo Maiden at Canterbury on July 5 and he predicts a bright future for the So You Think colt.

“He has certainly got what it takes and it would be nice to see him keep developing,” Bowman said.

“He is still immature and he is certainly a three year old type, as his father was, and his father won the Cox Plate as a three year old as we know.”

“I wouldn’t imagine that he would be winning this year’s Cox Plate bit it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets there in the future.”

Calculated is currently the $2.70 favourite for the #theraces Handicap at Ladbrokes.com.au and is the first of several well fancied rides for the day for Bowman.
