At her first run for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable, the former New Zealand trained Bounding blew her rivals away with a four lengths win for Kerrin McEvoy in the Group 3 $150,000 The Heath 1100m Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

McEvoy is riding at Flemington today so Brenton Avdulla has been called up to partner Bounding who will jump from barrier four.

Bookmakers at Ladborkes.com.au than had no hesitation in stalling Bounding the $1.95 favourite when the final field for the Sheraco Stakes was released on Wednesday and her price has continued to shorten into $1.70 on race morning.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden said that the Lonhro mare has improved since her first win at Caulfield and he hopes to return there for the Group 1 $400,000 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 26.

“”She’s still on the way up,” Peter Snowden told the Sportsman.

“She had a perfect run. She settled beautifully and was really strong late.”

“Since she has come home she hasn’t missed a beat.”

Snowden had the option of running Bounding in the Group 2 $200,000 Bobby Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington today but decided to stay in Sydney and run against the fillies and mares under set weights and penalties.

“I wanted to give her a 1200m run here to save the travelling but I am still keen to go to the Rupert Clarke,” Snowden said.

“The reason for going there was to have a look at Caulfield to see how she’d handle it and she handled the track really well.”

“My main focus is that race and this one gives her a 1100m and 1200m and up to 1400m with two runs under her belt.”

While under the care of Matamata trainers Ken and Bev Kelso, Bounding was able to claim a Group 1 victory in the NZ$200,000 Sistema Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on January 1, 2014.

Bounding’s main rival in the Sheraco Stakes is the Chris Waller trained Catkins who is yet to win at Group 1 level but has been placed on five occasions in the highest grade.

Catkins is on the second line of betting at $4.80 and is having her first run back from a short break  following her sixth to Srikandi in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20 at the end of the Queensland Winter Carnival.

The only other runner under double figures in the nine horses Sheraco Stakes is the Ron Quinton trained Peeping at $9.

Quinton is stepping Peeping back up to Group 3 company following her first up win in the 1200m BenchMark 90 Handicap at Rosehill on August 15.

Sheraco Stakes market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $1.70 Bounding, $4.80 Catkins, $9 Peeping, $14 Echo Gal, $18 Slightly Sweet, $19 Fine Mist, $31 Mihiri, Supara, $41 Fiftyshadesofgrey.
