Bound For Earth upset Guelph to record the biggest win of her career in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick today.

Guelph and Bound For Earth both came from the back off the field to challenge game leader Thump and Guelph looked as though she was going to steal victory on the line but Bound For Earth was able to hang on for the narrowest of victories.

Bound For Earth raced fairly during the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, finishing fifth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and third in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce (1350m), but looks to have returned as a three-year-old in fantastic condition.

Trainer John O’Shea was delighted with the victory and believes that the daughter of Northern Meteor still has plenty of improvement in front of her.

“We have always had a high opinion of her and she had no luck in Brisbane,” O’Shea said after the race.

“She ticked over nicely and trialed very well last Friday and we were hoping that she would run well here today.

“I think that when she gets to a mile she will be at her best.

“It will be interesting with her and Guelph they are obviously going to have a few tussles over the next month or so.

“Both fillies have got some improvement – Guelph looked to be a bit big in condition and my filly is like a bit hairy koala at the moment.”

Jockey Nicholas Hall travelled from Melbourne to pick up the ride on Bound For Earth and he clearly has a high opinion of the talented three-year-old.

“She put her front foot forward and geez there is some improvement in front of her,” Hall said.

“She dug deep and I think she will come on from that.

“We have something to look forward to there for sure.”

Guelph will likely get the opportunity to turn-the-tables on Bound For Earth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) later in the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.
