Glen Boss

Jockey Glen Boss (pictured with Hay List) will be back riding on Australian soil tomorrow

Glen Boss will be back in action on Australian soil tomorrow after a successful stint in Singapore which finished in fine style.

Boss will start up again at Sandown tomorrow where he has picked out four good chances in Tio Rossa, Finishing Card, Fashion Black and Stardom.

He had his last rides in Singapore on Sunday and it was a well deserved winning double after riding without a lot of luck in the weeks leading up to it.

His wins came on Sacred Emblem and Dynamic Dan on what was a day dominated by the Australians with ex-Aussie trainer Cliff Brown teaming up with ex-Aussie jockey John Powell to win the main event Singapore Derby.

“Things have been a little quiet and not going my way so I wanted to make a statement in my last day of riding,” Boss said.

While it was fantastic to see Boss back in the winner’s circle, the story of the day at Kranji were the efforts of the Brown trained Clint.

Bred in New Zealand, Clint upset the hopes and expectations of the favoured Better Than Ever.

It was the biggest win the Aussie since he left his Victorian base just over four years ago.

“He’s been pretty much bomb-proof throughout his time with us. The 2000 metre journey was perfect for him and he had a great draw,” Brown said.

“All that he needed was some luck from the draw, which he got, thanks to a great ride by Johnny.”

It was a great ride by Powell who rode his second Derby winner during what was somewhat of a dry spell, his first coming six years ago with Hello And Goodbye.

“Things haven’t been going too well for me of late but this might just be the thing to turns it around for me,” Powell said.

“To give Cliff his first Group win just adds to the victory. Cliff has been a great supporter of mine …”

New Zealand wonder jock James McDonald also picked up some rides on the Sunday card in Singapore, his visit impressing locals there just as much as here.

While his Derby mount Martial Art didn’t figure in the placings, he was at his best when getting home Vaya Condios in an earlier event.

For Boss though the next few weeks are crucial as he re-acclimatises himself to the Australian conditions ahead of the spring carnival.

He has been a major feature throughout the feature events for the last decade and ‘Group 1 Bossy’ as he’s known is hungrier than ever to get back on the winning podium for the majors in Melbourne later in the year.
