Boss To Ride Foreteller In Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes

Leading Melbourne jockey Glen Boss has been booked to ride Foreteller in the 2014 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Foreteller will be chasing another win at Group level when he contests the 2014 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Craig Newitt has ridden Foreteller in ten of his last 11 starts, while Hugh Bowman partnered the Dansili gelding in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 16, but Waller has elected to give Boss an opportunity on a number of his stables runners at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Boss has scored just two wins from 46 rides this season to date, but he returned to Group winning form with Chivalry in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday and Waller believes that the champion hoop is about to hit his straps heading into the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

“It is funny one because he is struggling for rides down there at the moment,” Waller said.

“There are good times to get riders and that is one of them.

“You can’t take away their ability and he is an outstanding jockey.

“We had Oliver on a few of them and he got suspended, so who else do you replace him with?

“He is on most of them and I think that he is about to hit a purple patch of form.

“Not only will he ride them well, but he will give you good feedback as well.

“There are a few horses that we need some feedback on.”

Foreteller will be having just his second start at Moonee Valley in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes after finishing fourth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) and is the highest rated horse in the field for the Group 2 event.

The eight-year-old was allocated the outside gate in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes barrier draw that was released this morning, but Waller does not believe that will be a problem for Foreteller and he is confident that the veteran gelding is good enough to win the $250,000 race.

“He is good enough,” Waller said.

The Cleaner is in this race and that will rip and tear and they will be stretched out, so I don’t think that barriers will be a problem for Foreteller.

“He is one of the best horses in the race, there are a couple of last start winners in there, including The Cleaner, Mourinho and Star Rolling, and it will give us a good line of where he is at.

“It was a good first-up run and he did run fourth in the Cox Plate.”

Foreteller is currently available at 2014 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes odds of $6, with Star Rolling ($4.40) a narrow favourite from The Cleaner ($5) in early betting markets for the Group 2 event.
