Boss Fires Absoloutelyawesome From Derby

Australia’s most in-form jockey Glen Boss has decided against jumping aboard Absoloutelyawesome for the AJC Derby at Randwick on Saturday week.

Although Boss originally wanted the ride and had a guaranteed spot he’s unhappy with the performance last start, finishing well back in the field.

The Mick Moroney trained three-year-old was seen as a good prospect in the Rosehill Guineas and had decent track position but faded away on the strait and never looked like winning the race.

Boss says he still thinks Absoloutelyawesome is a good horse but not “mentally mature enough” to win a Derby against a top quality field.

He has instead decided his best chance at claiming the $1.5 million Group 1 is with Australian Guineas winner Shamrocker.

It was Boss which steered her to victory that day and she performed a lot better than Absoloutelyawesome in the Rosehill Guineas, finishing third behind Jimmy Choux.

Either way she’ll need to find a new gear to challenge Jimmy Choux which stormed home in the final 100m to win the race fairly comfortable and continue his unbeaten run.
