Big race jockey Glen Boss has booked himself to ride Puissance De Lune in next year’s Melbourne Cup after the French import made a one act affair in winning the Group 3 $250,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington today.

The Darren Weir trained Puissance De Lune repeated his eight length Bendigo Cup win less than two weeks ago with a runaway win which had Boss standing high in the irons at the 100m in amazement at the ease of which the five year was dominating the rest of the field.

“That was probably the performance of the four days over the Flemington Carnival without a doubt,” Boss said.

“He’ll win next year’s Melbourne Cup, he’s a serious horse.”

“Never let him go, I’ve ridden some amazing horse flesh, one champion and some close to champions, this horse gives me the feel of no horse I’ve ridden for a long, long time. He’s a, WOW!”

“The way he relaxes in the run it’s just incredible. And he’s got some acceleration, he’s got Oakleigh Plate splits, for a stayer he’s incredible.”

“I think he will have a very good Autumn and when he fully matures, he’ll win next year’s Melbourne Cup.”

Weir was surprised how much Puissance De Lune has improved this campaign and today’s win has the Warrnambool trainer thinking of the Melbourne Cup next year after running second with She’s Archie in 2002 .

“The dream might be alive again here after being involved with She’s Archie.”

“Terrific wasn’t it. We took him to Bendigo in really good order. He run much better than what we were expecting and he brought that sort of form here today and won well again.”

“He surprised at Bendigo and he did again today. The horse is in great order.”

European visitors Lost In The Moment and Shahwardi were never in the race and after coming to Australia as Melbourne Cup hopes were very disappointing.

On the strength of his Bendigo Cup win Puissance De Lune was sent out the $3 favourite in the Queen Elizabeth and favourite backers never had a thing to worry about with the grey travelling smoothly all the way and once Boss let him go at the 300m the result was never in doubt.

Sydney galloper Ironstein ($26) ran into second placing but was never in the same race with $21 chance Tanby winding up in third spot.
