Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore has never been shy when talking up exciting colt Crack A Roadie and he is already dreaming of bigger things.

Theodore describes the youngster as the best horse he has trained and tomorrow’s Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington will be his final hitout before heading to the paddock to refresh ahead of a Blue Diamond Stakes campaign in the autumn.

The son of Charge Forward got a long way back on debut at Moonee Valley two weeks ago before reeling off a stunning finish to win the $255,000 Inglis Banner Stakes (1000m) and justify the pre-race hype from Theodore.

“At the 600m mark, the way it unfolded, a lot of people probably gave him no hope. But he won from an almost unwinnable position,” Theodore said.

Theodore sees no reason not to take a similar level of confidence to Flemington this weekend.

“He’s absolutely bombproof,” Theodore said.

“He’s so clean through the coat since the run on Cox Plate day and the gallop I gave him was as sharp as ever.

“Going to the roomier track at Flemington, especially drawn in barrier 10 which will be the better side of the track, there’s no reason not to be confident.”

Theodore said the talented youngster showed he was something special from the “moment he had a saddle on his back” and was thrilled he was able to show that on debut.

“He’s just picked up everything so quickly, it’s almost like training a five-year-old with 20 starts under his belt,” he said.

“The ability was obvious just through the way he could run time but you’ve got to show it on race day and he did that.

“It’s going to take a good horse to beat him tomorrow because he’s right at the top of his game.”

Crack A Roadie is currently second in the betting ($5) for the Maribyrnong Plate with Darley colt Citations the favourite at $3.40.
