Queensland trainer Tony Gollan will again venture to Melbourne to chase the southern riches after stable star Temple Of Boom impressed in a spring campaign last year.

While Temple Of Boom will again fly the flag for Gollan this spring, the Group 1 winning sprinter will be joined in Melbourne by half brother Spirit Of Boom.

Temple Of Boom, who earlier this year scored Group 1 honours in the Galaxy at Randwick, will be targeted at the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington on November 10.

It is a venue where the six-year-old has experienced plenty of success, winning both the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap and the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes on the straight there last year.

“We’re not sure where he will kick off yet but his grand final will be the Patinack,” Gollan said.

“We all know how good he is on the straight, he showed that last year.”

While Temple Of Boom is still in pre-training and not due to return to Gollan’s Eagle Farm stables until Monday, Spirit Of Boom has been back a week and is being aimed to resume in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis (1200m) next month.

“Being a big, grosser horse and a stallion we’ve brought him back a week earlier,” Gollan said.

“Provided we’re happy enough with Spirit he’ll kick off in the Bobbie Lewis, if not we’ll wait another couple of weeks,” Gollan said.

Gollan said plans were not yet finalised for Spirit Of Boom but admitted the weather would play a major role in deciding just how much racing he has this spring.

“If it’s a wet spring he won’t have as much racing,” Gollan said.

A two-time black-type winner, Spirit Of Boom performed solidly in the winter, with his best result a fourth-place finish in the Doomben 10,000 in which Temple Of Boom finished third.

Fellow Gollan-trained runner Listen Son will bypass Melbourne’s Spring Carnival and will instead be aimed at the Group 2 Villiers Stakes at Warwick Farm in December.
