Boban returned to his best form with a surprise win over It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and is set to press on to both the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, but is an outside chance to make his international racing debut in the Singapore Airlines International Cup.
Trainer Chris Waller has left his options open for the Singapore Airlines International Cup; with Australian Cup placegetter Foreteller, imported galloper Rugged Cross and 2013 Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur also included in the nominations for the Group 1 event.
Fellow Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse will be taking Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente to the United Kingdom for the Royal Ascot Meeting later this year and is also considering a maiden trip to Singapore with a couple of her horses.
Tough stayer Julienas and progressive gelding Spurtonic both failed to fire first-up this preparation, finishing towards the tail of the field in the Listed Canberra Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) respectively, but both have been included in the 2014 Singapore Airlines International Cup.
David Vandyke is still chasing his maiden win at the highest level of racing and could record his breakthrough victory in Singapore after including imported stayers Prince Cheri and Less Is More in the nominations for the International Cup.
Prince Cheri worked through the grades impressively during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and was far from disgraced when sixth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), while Less Is More resumed with an eighth place finish in the Liverpool City Cup.
Other Australian trainers that have included horses in the nominations for the Singapore Airlines International Cup include Pat Carey (Lucky Chappy), Michael Moroney (Rhythm To Spare), Kris Lees (Slow Pace) and Saab Hasan (Shoreham).
Former Australian-trained galloper Linton as well as two-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux, Australian-owned Dandino, Mackinnon Stakes winner Side Glance and Emirates Stakes fourth placegetter Mull Of Killough are also a chance to contest the Singapore Airlines International Cup in May.
Mummify is the only Australian-trained horse that has been successful in the Singapore Airlines International Cup, recording an impressive win in the 2004 edition of the race, while Mawingo flew home late to finish third behind Military Attack and Dan Excel in last year’s race.
