Sydney trainer Clarry Conners is hoping the addition of blinkers will help Queensland Oaks favourite Dear Demi claim her second Group 1 title at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

A late request to apply the gear change was accepted by Racing Queensland stewards after Conners indicated he hopes it will allow his charge to settle in a more forward position.

“The filly has previously raced successfully with blinkers,” a Racing Queensland statement said.

“Mr Conners is of the opinion that the gear change will result in Dear Demi settling in a more forward position than recent starts where the filly has settled at the rear of the field.”

The three-year-old last raced in blinkers in her fifth-place finish in the Vinery Stud Stakes in April.

She has since raced three times without blinkers, including running second in the Australian Oaks and winning The Roses at Doomben.

Dear Demi is a $3.40 favourite for Saturday’s assignment which will be the final run of a lengthy preparation. The daughter of Dehere is racing for the third time in three weeks and is having the eighth start of a campaign that began in February.

Out to turn the tables on Dear Demi will be Pat Carey-trained filly Gondokoro.

Gondokoro finished behind her in third place in the Australian Oaks and was denied in a photo finish after flashing home in The Roses.

Both fillies have shown they can perform in the wet which could be handy on Saturday.

Heavy showers fell in Brisbane on Thursday and the easily rain-affected Eagle Farm track could see the three-year-old fillies’ feature run in sloppy conditions.
