Dual Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha sold at auction for $245,000

At Newmarket on Friday the annual 2011 Inglis Spring Thoroughbred Sale was conducted, with dual Group 1 winner Black Piranha the star, selling for $245,000.

Sold to dissolve a partnership, Black Piranha, who went through as Lot 107 attracted plenty of interest, with bids coming from every section around the Newmarket ring. The 2009 & 2010 Stradbroke winner who had amassed over 2.6 million dollars in prize money was finally knocked down to Cameron Cooke Bloodstock for $245,000.

“There was plenty of tough competition about, but I’m delighted to be able to pick such a high quality galloper up for my Melbourne based client”, Cooke said.

“He looked in sparkling condition in the ring and his form has been outstanding, with his run the other day to finish fourth in the George Main a top effort.

“He will head to Melbourne to be aimed at some of the big spring carnival races, followed by possible trips to New Zealand then Dubai next year,” Cooke added.

Inglis Sydney Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy said. “Opportunities to buy into a top class galloper in good form like Black Piranha don’t come across too often, resulting in strong competition from numerous parties”.

The new trainer of Black Piranha will be advised in the coming days.
