Group 1 winner Black Piranha will go to auction at the Inglis Spring Thoroughbred Sale

Eight-year-old gelding Black Piranhawill be sold at auction this Friday after his owners decided to dissolve their partnership in the talented horse.

The Clang gelding will be sold at the Inglis Spring Thoroughbred Sale at Newmarket in Sydney.

While there is no word as to why the owners opted to dissolve their current affiliation, Inglis bloodstock director Jonathan D’Arcy said an auction was often the best solution.

“Situations where the partnership involved in a horse needs be dissolved are unfortunate but public auction is considered the best way of resolving any issues,” D’Arcy said.

Black Piranha is best known for his dual Stradbroke Handicap wins during the 2009 and 2010 Brisbane Winter Racing carnival.

The gelding finished eighth in this year’s attempt to claim three consecutive wins in the race.

Black Piranha finished fourth in his last three Group starts, including his most recent appearance in the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Rosehill last weekend.

Currently trained at Rosehill by Con Karakatsanis, Black Piranha has won eight of his 60 career starts.

Picked up for the bargain price of $41,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the horse has won more than $2.6 million in prize money.
