Trainer Darren Weir is not keen to start Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday if Sydney’s wet weather continues.

The 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival has been plagued with heavy tracks and with more rain predicted for the back end of the week, Weir will make a late decision if his multiple Group 1 winner takes his place in the final weight for age feature of the Carnival.

“He is not a wet tracker and he likes it on top of the ground,” Weir told The Daily Telegraph.

“He will come if the track isn’t too wet.”

Black Heart Bart proved to be the dominant weight for age performer during the Melbourne Autumn Carnival with wins in the Group 1 $500,000 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and in the Group 1 $500,000 italktravel Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

The six year old was given a short freshen up following his Caulfield Group 1 wining double and Weir said that he is in great shape to head to Sydney for the All Aged Stakes with an extension of his campaign being considered for the Adelaide and Brisbane Carnivals.

“He is in great shape and he’s been a great horse,” Weir said.

“We might go to Brisbane or the Goodwood (in Adelaide).”

Black Heart Bart could return to Adelaide on May 20 to defend his victory of the 2016 Group 1 $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville and a return venture to Brisbane could also be on the cards following his close second to Under The Louvre in the 2016 Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

The Black Friars gelding also went on to be one of the stars of the 2016 Melbourne Spring Carnival with two Group 1 wins at Caulfield in the $500,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) and in the $500,000 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m).

Black Heart Bart is the winner off 16 races from thirty-nine starts and has massed just over $2.4 million in prizemoney.
