Timeform has raised super mare Black Caviar’s rating from 135 to 136 as a result of Hay List winning the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington last Saturday.
Black Caviar had beaten Hay List by one and three quarter lengths in the Group 1 $750,000 Coolmore Lightning Stakes at Flemington on February 18 before Hay List won the Newmarket under 58.5kg.
As a result of Hay List’s win at Flemington, his timeform rating was raised to 132.
Timeform’s Australian handicapper Gary Crispe said: “The strength of Black Caviar’s form continues to be underlined, not least by the subsequent efforts of those she has beaten.”
“She has been a minimum of 4lb better than Hay List each time they have met, and it seemed correct to raise her slightly following that gelding’s excellent Newmarket Handicap success.”
Sprinting champ Black Caviar is now the equal highest rated filly or mare in Timeform history alongside the British sprinter of the 1980s Habibti and top French filly of the 1970s Allez France.
Black Caviar is easily the best sprinter and the best mare in the world at the moment but is still rated below the unbeaten British miler Frankel for the tilt of the best racehorse in the world.
Frankel has a Timeform figure of 143, the highest Timeform rating for any horse since the early 1970s.
Both horses are due to race at Royal Ascot in June but the likelihood of a clash is very remote with Black Caviar sticking to the sprinting distances while Frankel will concentrate on a mile or longer.
Newmarket winner Hay List has been nominated for the Group 1 S$1m Krisflyer International Sprint (1200m) at Kranji in Singapore.
The International Sprint on May 20 is the fourth leg of the Global Sprint Challenge and has attracted six noms from Australia among a total of 61 international entries.
Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has nominated Emirates Stakes winner Albert The Fat and last start Millie Fox winner Red Tracer.
Smart sprinters Atomic Force and African Pulse are also entered along with the John Sadler trained Salinger Stakes winner Sister Madly.
Hay List is likely to clash with Singapore’s top sprinter Rocket Man who won the Krisflyer International last year and heads the list of 19 local entries.
