Trainer Peter Moody hasn’t ruled out anything for his super mare Black Caviar as she prepares for her first race appearance for almost eight months in the Group 1 $500,000 Black Caviar Lightning(1000m) at Flemington today.

Moody will let Black Caviar tell him if she will race on after today’s scamper down the Flemington straight and another trip to England hasn’t been ruled if the undefeated Queen of the turf performs up to her usual dominant standard.

Black Caviar is having her first race start since winning the Group 1 £500,000 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot on June 23 and is aiming for her third Lightning win in as many years and a win today would take her winning sequence to twenty-three and tip her prizemoney over the $7 million mark.

Moody would love to show off Black Caviar at the Melbourne and Sydney Autumn Carnivals and then move onto Brisbane for the winter but said there is still a faint possibility the world’s number one sprinter could make a return trip to Royal Ascot.

But Moody has indicated all along that he wouldn’t hesitate to retire the mighty mare if she raced below par or if any injury concerns resurfaced.

“I’ll be looking for her to dictate how the race is run … to go through her gears and do what she has to,” Moody said.

“Then I’ll get together with the owners and map out a program.

“But if I have concerns that she’s not at the top of her game, I’d wonder whether we should go on.

“What she does will dictate where we head in the future.”

Moody would only consider another trip to England if Black Caviar returned in good shape and if there was a possibility of mating with a European stallion.

“The only reason I thought she might make the trip would be if the owners thought about her going to a stallion like Frankel and being served to southern hemisphere time,” Moody said.

As well as Black Caviar, Moody will also saddle up Golden Archer and Moment Of Change in the Lightning.

Golden Archer is a smart short course sprinter while Moment Of Change hasn’t raced since winning the Group 1 $400,000 Clamms Seafood Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 30.

As expected Black Caviar has come up the very short priced favourite at $1.06 with the Danny O’Brien trained Shamexpress the nearest in the betting at $17 just in front of Moment of Change at $18.
